JM Howey was born in New Jersey, USA in 1973. He lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Howey's practice examines the arbitrary specifics of formal instruction and what are considered foundational aims and techiniques of studio practice.
"I mean, it's terrible to spend what's left of your Saturday evening talking yourself back from the brink with whatever reductive self-help drivel you can quietly muster up in the middle of a crowded subway car on your way home. Such things are especially disconcerting when you tend to regard yourself as someone who should be immune to these kinds of posi-platitudes. But really, who has the luxury for such snobbery when facing down the challenge of articulating even the outermost edges of one's actual feelings? How nice would it be to emote in a more surgical fashion? How reassuring to not cry during mainstream feature films? How lovely to not enjoy electronic dance music? How sweet to be a painter again? "
